Through the GAI’s programme for continuing professional development (CPD), those who have attained a Stage 3 GAI qualification can go on to establish and maintain their Registered or Certified professional status.

This is the highest possible standard of education and professionalism you can achieve; a benchmark standard which is at the heart of what GAI stands for.

Completing the CPD programme demonstrates that you are fully up-to-date with the latest industry standards, regulation, legislation, and best practice.

The following programme is required to become and maintain status as:

  • Registered Architectural Ironmonger (RegAI)
  • Registered Door Systems (RegDS)
  • Registered Electric Hardware & Access Control (RegAC)
  • Certificated Standards and Regulations Advisor (CertSRA).

The benefits of a registered or certified status:

  • The ability to market and promote an impressive professional status – an important differentiator in a competitive market.
  • Personalised electronic logos and letters after your name to allow you to stand out from the crowd.
  • Enhancing your employability with evidence of your personal continued professional development.
  • The opportunity to learn, network and maintain professional status in an enjoyable, sociable environment.
  • Flexible ways to meet the CPD criteria.

Our flexible CPD requirements can be met by activities including:

  • Viewing or attending non-core CPD presentations (online or at GAI Community Hub meetings)
  • Completing online quizzes relating to a non-core CPD presentation*
  • Attending RIBA-approved CPD presentations or external CPD presentations or webinars
  • Presenting company CPD material to industry audiences
  • Attending CPD presentations at trade shows or exhibitions.
  • Attending GAI approved factory tours.
  • Delivering industry-related training, including GAI courses or webinars.
  • Providing training material for GAI courses.
  • Delivering, or attending, in-house or external training, seminars or webinars.
* Please note, while all GAI webinars are available for catch-up viewing by members via the GAI website at www.gai.org.uk/CPD-resources, pre-2023 webinars will not be accompanied by an online quiz, making each worth a maximum of 1 CPD point.
To achieve and maintain registered or certified status, you must register or renew your membership to join the CPD programme; gain 20 CPD points within a 12-month calendar year to gain registered or certified status the following year; and gain 20 CPD points per annum to maintain your registered or certified status.
